Lunch - On My Own

Since lunches are not provided by my homestay, I have to prepare my own lunch.
I really don't mind at all, I actually enjoy it :)
. . .
Some pictures of the lunches that I prepared over the one week Easter break!!
(these are real okay, original)
. . .
A. -Wednesday-

Stir-fried fettuccine + smoked ham + vege + carrots + tomatoes

B. - Thursday -
Rice (with teriyaki sauce)(someone stole my rice, so only have half left) + vege+ potatoes(i did't know it would be so many!!) + tomatoes + carrots + bacon (i know its odd, i thought it was beef)
. . .
C. - Friday -
Indonesian 'maggi' + egg + vege
(this is horrible compared to the other lunches I cooked up)
. . .
D. - Saturday -
Stir-fried Soba (some kind of Japanese noodles that I found in the pantry that had not expired) + egg (sunny side up/'mata kerbau') + dumplings + carrots + vege
-
(a close up...)
(btw, they are not burnt, it's the sauce that I used)
.
. . .
.
So, if you observed well enough, I used the same kind of vegies in all of them.. 'Cos its the only one I can find.
. .
Just for fun, please vote for the food that you would actually eat (come on la)..
Hehe..

Big Lesson by a Small Creature

(got this through an email)
THE ANT AND THE CONTACT LENS
A true story by Josh and Karen Zarandona

Brenda was a young woman who was invited to go rock climbing. Although she was very scared, she went with her group to a tremendous granite cliff. In spite of her fear, she put on the gear, took hold of the rope, and started up the face of that rock.

Well, she got to a ledge where she could take a breather. As she was hanging on there, the safety rope snapped against Brenda's eye and knocked out her contact lens.

Well, here she is, on a rock ledge, with hundreds of feet below her and hundreds of feet above her. Of course, she looked and looked and looked, hoping it had landed on the ledge, but it just wasn't there.

Here she was, far from home, her sight now blurry. She was desperate and began to get upset, so she prayed to the Lord to help her to find it.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but there was no contact lens to be found. She sat down, despondent, with the rest of the party, waiting for the rest of them to make it up the face of the cliff.

She looked out across range after range of mountains, thinking of that verse that says, "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth." She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me."

Finally, they walked down the trail to the bottom. At the bottom
there was a new party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?"

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across the face of the rock, carrying it on it's back.

Brenda told me that her father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a picture of an ant lugging that contact lens with the words, "Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You."

I think it would probably do some of u s good to occasionally say, "God, I don't know why you want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if you want me to carry it, I will."

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day. Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him...I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

God will make a way

"... And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he wll also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."
1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)

This reminded me of a 'saying':
"If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it."

I find it quite comforting to know that God would not just throw a big pile of stuff at you and say: "Nah! Give you. Handle it and learn from it." When we are given a pile of work to do, our parents would probably come and check on us once in a while. I would think that God would do the same as well, if not even more. There is nothing that comes our way, that we cannot handle or overcome.

God will make a way, for sure. I know.

- - - - - - - -

God Will Make A Way
God will make a way,
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way.

By a roadway in the wilderness, He'll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade
But His Word will still remain
He will do something new today.

God will make a way,
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Easter Sunday

Easter is really big here. This week, all the supermarket catalogues are filled with chocolates-chocolate eggs, chocolate bunnies, chocolate sticks, chocolate biscuit, chocolate cookies, chocolate cakes, chocolate brownies, chocolate flavoured cereal... Well, you get the idea.
.
Have you ever wondered how eggs, bunnies and chocolates came into the picture? I don't recall the Bible telling us about Jesus eating chocolate bunnies and chocolate eggs..
.
.
Just before the weekend, one of my lecturers talked about Easter. He said that a long time ago, people had started to forget about Easter and it had started to lose its 'flavour'. So some people (forgot who) decided to have Easter Sunday on the same day Europeans have their end of Winter celebration.(True/false, I dunno)
.
"Or don't you know that all of us who were baptised into his death?
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father,
we too may live a new life.
If we have been united with him like this in his death,
we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.
For we know that our old self was cucified with him
so that the body of sin might be done away with,
that we should no longer be slaves to sin-
because anyone who has died has been freed from sin."
Romans 6:3-6 (NIV)
Let us learn to live a life that potrays that new life that we have gained through Jesus' resurrection.
.
To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen

My First Week at CIC

First week(excluding orientation) was alright. Just had to go to classes and buy books. The books are really expensive (My friend paid AUD100 for Physics 2nd-hand book). I have not bought all my books yet.
Some stuff that I had to do that I never had to do before:

  1. take the bus everyday

  2. do my own laundry

  3. put sunscreen everyday!!
Some stuff that happened:

  1. got lost while looking for the bus stop to go home, ended up in the student guild area

  2. got lost again, this time, I ended up in the car park

  3. went to 2nd-hand Book Sale (sold my students) - managed to get 2 out of 4 books that I need for thi semester

  4. found out that there was a 2nd-hand bookstore that sold books at a much much cheaper price (it was too late when I found out, no books left)

  5. went to the library to look for the books, but got blur, so I had to ask for help from a librarian

Bus experiences:

  1. missed the bus stop and ended up in a shopping mall, then had to take another bus back again.

  2. almost missed the bus because I didn't hail it.

  3. kinda got scolded by the bus driver and 2 elders because of 1 and 2

  4. every trip is AUD0.90, sometimes AUD0.60 I don;t know why the rated are different

Classes and Lectures:

  1. changed my schedule and units many times over a long period of time(one and a half weeks)

  2. Taking 8 units over 2 semesters (which means I'll probably be back around October before I go back in February again)

  3. Exam is in Week 13 (now is still in Week 1)

Units for Semester 1:

Communications 1:

  • All the girls in the class(other than me) are Indonesians (except one who is pretty much Australian)

  • I'm the only girl who did not sit with a girl (cos odd number, and I came in later than the other girls)

  • I'm sitting at the last row in class (same reason)

  • I'm going to sit somewhere neared to the front in the next class (hopefully)

  • I have not met the lecturer because it was another who taught us for Week 1

  • I'm praying that the lecturer is a good and patient (haha..)

  • I asked around, according to senior students, should be a piece of cake (hopefully)

Mathematics 021 (Form 4)

  • I have not been to the class yet (missed the first week because I took too long to decide on my units-the mentor give wrong info-agrhhhh)

  • Heard that the lecturer likes to tease and say stuff about his students

  • Most students, generally don't like him

Physics 013 (Form 4)

  • Out of about 40 students, only about 4 are female

  • According to the lecturer, JB, guys cannot work with girls

  • But I don't wanna work with girls only (because from what I observed, most of the other girls won't be putting in much effort in projects and assignments)

Programming:

  • Out of about 25 students, 2-4 are female

  • Again, according to the lecturer, JB, guys cannot work with girls

  • And guys cannot ask girls for help, unless the girl ask them for help

  • I don't like this unit!!

  • This is SOOO not me

  • But, its an open book test (haha), and you can use any saved projects when you are sitting for the exam
----------------------------------------------
Lecturer JB:
  1. has a great sense of humour

  2. despises John Howard and George Bush

  3. students cannot refer to him as 'Sir' (or mister) If they do, for 4 or more times in one semester, they will fail

  4. when there is something he likes or he thinks is cool, he says:

COOL BANANAS!!!

(extracted from www.myzoetrope.com)

(cos we learning about plagiarism)

My Place

.

That's my room. Quite nice kan..

The house is at along the main road, not a 'lorong'. So every now and then, I will hear people talking when they are taking a walk outside, or cars zooming across the road. And the street lights are really bright.

.

Last night (or this morning) I suddenly wake up from my sleep. Then I see got light from outside shining into my room. Then I panic, I thought it was morning already (I was expecting visitors). So I quickly look at my clock,

.

1.08 a.m.

.

haiz..And so, of course, I went back to sleep.

At the Shopping Malls

Before I moved

These are some of the pics that I took during my stay, before I moved into my homestay place.
.
.
Aunty Siew Kah's hse, where we stayed before I moved to homestay place on Saturday. Its actually pretty big compared to the other houses here. Most houses here are single storey houses, but those in her 'taman' are not.
.
.
The park right in front of the house. Beautiful park (on a slope) with a shed in the middle. There was a couple who lived in the same 'taman' who got married there. Cool..
.
.
Here, you have to clean up after your dog. So you will see ppl carrying plastic bags or newspaper while walking their dogs.
.
.
This is CORICA, the shop where you can get the world famous
APPLE STRUDLE.
.
.
1957!! I just realised sama bday dengan Tanah Melayu (not Malaysia) Malaysia is 1963, NOT 1957, though not exactly approved by government ( i think)
.
.
We bought 2 boxes back. They sell by boxes, not slices. That show how much ppl want to buy them. Which means they're really good.
.

.
3 layers of pastry (not the ordinary one, its actually very light and crisp) and 2 layers of light cream (not the kind that makes you wana barf when you eat too much), mustard and apples. *mouth is watering already*
.
.
Its length is from the tip of my fingers to my elbow, very generous portion.
.
ITS SOO GOOD!!!

Take Off & Landing

Okay, while packing all my stuff, I realised that I find it hard to live light, as in have less things to bring with me. But come on la, Australia oh.. If not, then use up even more money to buy here cause its way more expensive.
----------------
Okay, so I admit that even though I was travelling with my mom and aunt and luggage limit was 70 kg(20kg per pax + 10kg additional), we, or more specifically, I still went overboard. Altogether it was 89.2 kg (check-in luggage only)..I was a bit shocked la but hehe, God did a miracle.
------------------
As you all know, if overweight, need to pay quite a bit of money. So we were 19.2 kilos overweight. Assuming if there was a rm100 charge to every kilo that was overweight, that would be the amount that we would have to pay. Yep, you do the math, that's A LOT of money. But God was with us and we did NOT have to pay a single cent. YAY!
------------------
Also, my mom was persuading the guy at the counter to put more of our luggages as check-in luggage so that we won't have to hand carry so much.
.
---Mom: One more la..Printer only..Very light..2 or 3 kg only..Can la..I put ah..
---Guy: Hah..Erm..*puts the printer together with the other luggages* 3 kg oh.. Ok la..*scratches head*
---Mom: Erm..One more can kah?Radio only..Very light..2 or 3 kg only..Boleh la..Please la..
---Guy: I try first.*weighs it* Its 4kg.
---Mom: About 3kg la..Please la..Very light..
---Guy: Hah..Like dat ah?Erm..*still hesitating*
---Mom: After no radio, my daughter cannot sleep..You sing for her can ah?
---Guy: Hah!I cannot sing oh..Ok la..
---Me: YAY!(in my head)
..
Haha.. Mom.. =)
(not that I can't sleep without the radio)
.
Then after we took the ticket and stuff, the guy said: Did you know that your flight is delayed for 3 hours? At first, we were like:What?! But then we realised that it was actually a good thing.. Because initially we had to transit in Brunei for 3 hours. So now no need to sit there and waste 3 hours. So, I would also count that as a blessing.
------------------
So my mom and I went to the office to get some work done. Then we went to lintas for 'pan man' (not meant to be read in English, or else it sounds like a man who is selling pots and pans). When we had arrived, mom asked me,
.
---Mom: Do you have Malaysian money?
---Me: Aiya,no oh..I left it at home.
---Mom: *smiles*I also forgot to bring,I only have Sing dollars and Aussie dollars.
---Mom *turns to company driver*: Er,(name),saya lupa bawa duit Malaysia oh.Boleh pinjam - - - - - - - - -rm20? Mahu makan dulu bah..
---Driver: *laughs* rm20? Boleh..*hands the money to mom*
---Mom: Ok Ok.Thank you ah..Nanti kau minta dari reception, saya kasih tahu mereka nanti.
.
(was gonna use 'diamu' for 'mereka' but i tried checking the dictionary, not a word, not even indonesian. You guys ever use this word kah? Sam, we got use with kakak before bah kan? Read it out, you might remember)
.
The airport. Its dark because it was evening already. And no, do not be deceived by the tower at the back, its not a short KL tower..
.
.
Yes, I know.. Alot.. That's Uncle Kevin's car, its all filled up.
.
.
Perth is pretty much a dessert, sand and cloudless skies, which causes the big difference in temperatures during the day and night. About 10 degrees(C) I would think. Temperature difference inside and outside the house is also about 10 degrees(when its hot).
First week
Tuesday: 37
Wednesday: 38
Thursday: 41
Friday: 39
Its just starting to get cooler now (beginning of Fall/ Autumn), with a bit of rain here and there. Weather report says 26 degrees today.
.
.
The view while driving form airport to the house (on the freeway, something like highway, without traffic lights). Nice hor.. I like it.. Its like that for a whole stretch, like 10 mins (I think).
